1996 Workshop in Visual Resources Collection Fundamentals will be
held at The University of Texas at Austin, Monday, June 17 to
Friday, June 21, 1996.  Workshop leaders are Christine Sundt,
associate professor and curator of the Visual Resources Collection
at the University of Oregon, Architecture and Allied Arts Library,
and Nancy Schuller, senior lecturer and curator of visual arts for
the Visual Resources Collection of the Department of Art and Art
History, The University of Texas at Austin.

The workshop will include subjects basic to the management of visual
resources collections, as well as emerging issues in the field.  The
purpose is to inform the visual resources curator, librarian, or
user, of some of the major topics involved in the development,
management, and operation of visual resources collections.  Included
will be both theoretical and practical information about aspects of
this type of collection management, as well as discussions and
demonstrations of new electronic methods and tools for accessing as
well as managing and delivering images and descriptive records.
There will be discussions and demonstrations of Getty's
microcomputer software for standard terminologies, for use in
descriptive cataloging and information retrieval.  Digital imaging
and its use will also be considered.  Special topics on classifying
and cataloging both art and architecture images will be addressed.
The workshop consists of lectures, discussions, hands-on activities,
and demonstrations.

Fee for this week-long workshop is $450.00.  A $25.00 deposit will
be accepted before April 20, 1996 to reserve a space, with balance
due by April 20.  After April 20, only the full fee will be
accepted. Registration is limited, so early registration is advised.

Housing:  a block of rooms is reserved in Jester Center, an
on-campus dormitory.  A housing application will be sent to you when
your registration is received.  Housing cost includes breakfasts and
dinners in Jester Cafeteria, and is estimated to be:  $208.80 single
occupancy, $161.05 double occupancy, room with connecting bath.
Check-in June 16, dinner, check-out June 21, breakfast.  Additional
room-nights are available before and after the workshop at the rate
of $28.65 per night single occupancy, $19.10 double occupancy, meals
not included.
