How will the library community learn about and teach digital imaging
and the preservation of electronic records? Come to a discussion
session in San Antonio January 18 to give your viewpoint at "Bit by
Byte: Teaching Digitization and Preservation of Electronic Records."

The Association for Library and Information Science Education
(ALISE) Preservation Special Interest Group (SIG) will feature a
group discussion of the methods, messages, and materials which are
being used to teach the concepts and practical applications of
digitization for preservation and access, and for teaching about
electronic records preservation.

Tom Clareson, Preservation Service Manager, AMIGOS Bibliographic
Council, will serve as moderator and give an overview of education
efforts across the country, particularly focusing on continuing
education activities. Paul N. Banks, Senior Lecturer, Preservation
and Conservation Studies, Graduate School of Library and Information
Science, The University of Texas at Austin, will talk about his
institution's approach to teaching digitization.

The session will be held from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, January
18, in the Blanco Room on the third floor, Hyatt Regency Riverwalk,
San Antonio. For further information, please contact Tom Clareson
at AMIGOS, telephone 800-843-8482, or email: clareson [at] amigos__org
