Subject: Position at National Library of Medicine
The National Library of Medicine's Preservation and Collection Management Section has a vacancy for the position, Head, Quality Assurance Unit. The incumbent has primary responsibility for all aspects of microfilm quality control, remote storage of microfilm and historical audiovisuals, service copy microfilm production, environmental monitoring of collection storage areas, and on-site vault management. Supervises NLM staff engaged in these activities and serves as Project Officer for all related contracts. Reports to the Head, Preservation and Collection Management Section and participates in Section planning and management. Position level: Librarian or Technical Information Specialist GS-11/12 Salary range: $36,174 - $56,362. Closing date for applications: 12/11/95 Qualifications: Librarian: One full year of graduate study in library science at an accredited college or university; or completion of all the requirements for a fifth year bachelors degree in library science and at least one year of library experience that includes performance of duties in one or more functional areas of librarianship; or a total of at least five years of a combination of college-level education, training and/or experience. Technical Information Specialist: A full four-year course of study that meets all the requirements for a bachelors degree; or four years of experience that provided a knowledge of the basic principles, theories, practices, techniques and terminology of a discipline or subject matter field. Such experience must be equivalent to that gained from completion of a four year college curriculum. All applicants must have one year of experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Government. In addition to the requirements outlined above, the following selective factor will be used in determining basic qualifications: knowledge of library or archives preservation microfilming production and quality control. Applicants meeting basic qualifications will be evaluated in terms of skill in contract, grant, or project management; ability to assign, coordinate, and evaluate subordinates' work; and skill in program planning, communication, and problem solving.
