3M CD Protection Kit

From: Marcia Watt <libmaw>

Currently in this library there is discussion about how to identify
and secure the limited number of CDs that are allowed to circulate.
The "3M CD Protection Kit" has been identified as a possible method
of doing this.

My question is, has anyone had experience using this product? If
so, what was that experience?

The catalog gives very little information:

Secure your CDs with these two-piece sets. Each includes a
Tattle-Tape strip and a clear overlay.

>From all the reading I've done on CD care & handling and longevity
issues, it has always been advised not to write or otherwise put
anything (labels, ownership marks, security devices, etc.) directly
onto the surface of a CD. This product seems to violate that
advice. Thanks for any help or insights you can offer.
