The Research Libraries of The New York Public Library has an
excellent opportunity available as an Associate Chief Librarian,
Preservation Treatment in the Preservation Division.  Under the
direction of the Chief Librarian for Preservation, the successful
candidate will be given the responsibility of managing all physical
treatment including commercial binding and related education and
training activities in the Preservation Treatment Program.  In
addition, this candidate will direct the operations of the
conservation treatment facilities, including work flow and
assignment of work; preparing and monitoring budgets; and ordering
supplies and equipment. Will supervise, train and evaluate
professional and technical staff.  In addition, participates in the
review, analysis and implementation of preservation treatment
programs.  The Associate Chief Librarian will also represent The
Library at appropriate professional meetings, conferences and
seminars.

For consideration, candidates must possess the following
qualifications:  An ALA accredited MLS degree. Certification or
training in conservation treatment. Minimum of five years of
successfully demonstrated experience in preservation administration,
including substantial experience in the administration of a
conservation/preservation program in a library or archive.
Successfully demonstrated experience establishing and managing a
preservation treatment program within a complex institutional
setting; developing successful strategies for change; managing
staff, and preparing and monitoring budgets. Broad knowledge of
conservation and preservation technologies; preservation cost
factors and productivity issues. Excellent interpersonal, verbal,
and written communication skills. Membership in and involvement with
professional organizations in the field of preservation and
librarianship.
