Mass preservation of photographs

From: Betty Walsh <bwalsh>

I'd like to respond to Richard Pearce-Moses' query about comparing
the merits of cold storage versus duplication of negatives. I
recommend Steve Puglia's paper "The Preservation of Acetate Film
Materials--A Cost-Benefit Analysis for Duplication and Cool/Cold
Storage" in Topics in Photographic Preservation, Volume 6, 1995,
published by the Photographic Materials Group of the American
Institute for Conservation. (A condensed version of Steve Puglia's
article "Cost-Benefit Analysis for B/W Acetate: Cool/Cold Storage
vs. Duplication" is available in the latest Abbey Newsletter, Vol 19
No 4, (September 1995) pp 71-72.)

If there isn't an AIC PMG member in your neighbourhood, you can
purchase a copy of this publication from the AIC office in
Washington.
