Conference Proceedings: Preservation Microfilming: Does it have a future? The National Preservation Office of Australia has recently published the proceedings of its 1994 Annual Conference. At a time when digital technology is altering the way information is created, accessed and preserved, the future of preservation microfilming is constantly being challenged. These proceedings present a range of views on the topic presented by professional conservators, librarians, archivists and technology specialists. The publication is a must for anyone engaged in preservation microfilming activities, as it not only covers the issues posed by the digital age, but also gives guidance on best practice for preservation microfilming programs as we head for the 21st Century. Keynote speakers Ralph Manning from the National Library of Canada, Anne Kenney from Cornell University, and Elizabeth Ho, Colin Webb and Paul Wilson from Australian institutions, reviewed critical "big picture" issues. Speakers from all Australian states described diverse approaches to microfilming at Australian institutions and reviewed key issues such as copyright, standards, access and cataloguing, relationships with commercial microfilming agencies, storage, and the need for national cooperation and coordination of effort.
