Conservation Assistant Georgetown University Law Center Assist Preservation Librarian in the administration of a comprehensive preservation program. Conservation Assistant to perform book conservation procedures for the general collection. Assess the condition of materials and make decisions on appropriate treatment options. Manage the brittle book replacement program. Order reprints and prepare brittle books for preservation photocopying. Bibliographic searching and updating of online library catalog. Manage the flow of materials through the conservation lab to ensure that repairs and other treatments are completed and returned to the collection in a timely manner. Train and supervise student assistants. Order and prepare conservation supplies for use. Assist Preservation Librarian with monitoring of the library environment and staff and patron education. Conservation Assistant may assist with rehousing and treating some rare book and archival materials, depending on skill level. Minimum qualifications: Book or paper conservation training and experience highly desirable. 2 years of college and 2 years relevant work experience in a library, museum, archives or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
