Treatment of pastel drawings

I am looking for information which will help me determine the next
course of treatment for an unfixed, pastel drawing with complex
tears, stains and distortions on thin, degraded, wood-pulp paper
(like butchers paper).  Has anyone had any good/bad experiences
humidifying, float or wet blotting paper washing and lining such
awkward items using suction table or other methods, or know of any
published articles\case histories? I would greatly appreciate
hearing from you,
