Subject: Food and drink in the library
Someone recently posed a query about collecting examples of the effects of food and drink in the library. For an exhibit recently held in the University of Denver library I simply posed an internal e-mail message to staff to bring me examples of damaged material as they came across it. The response was tremendous. Reference librarians, catalogers, shelvers, and end processing staff were especially good sources. Included in the material brought to me was journals with pages torn out, computer keyboards sticky with liquids, and even a book that had been chewed by a dog. Putting together my exhibit was easy--and all if it was in-house examples.
