Then, look at "The Conservation of Photographs", 1985, Eastman Kodak
Company (my copy came from from Archetype Books, London, +44 171 387
9651).

As this explains, pps. 132 ff, liquid or abrasive treatments have
all been found to cause damage, and often revert. Kodak advise
preservation "until harmless cleaning methods become known".

Reseal in a 19th century manner using a new stable coverglass and
mat. Tape edges & store. (40 % RH, 70 deg F).  Good luck,
