Digital imaging

On behalf of Anneke van Veen (curator of photography) of the Amsterdam
Municipal Archives I would like to ask the following: Are there any
researches done on the possibility of digital imaging as a means of
replacing analog duplication in order to conserve historical black
and white negatives? Thank you in advance,
