The University of Iowa Conservation Dept. will sponsor a series of
informal lectures by Christopher Clarkson on July 31-Aur. 3, 1995.
Funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, our regular workshop
series will be altered to allow a greater audience for this
exceptional opportunity.  Mr. Clarkson directs the Book and
Manuscriptss Conservation workshop at West Dean College.

He will cover

    *   English Monastic Binding

    *   Lay Binding of Medieval Europe (includes limp vellum)

    *   Safe Display of Books and Manuscripts

    *   Various Aspects of the Conservation of Books and
        Manuscripts, including Workshop Design.

There is no fee for the series which is designed for practicing
bench conservators.  "The Florence Flood from the Perspective of a
Young Bookbinder" will be presented by Mr. Clarkson on Aug. 3, 7:00
