Demagnetizing magnetic tapes

Further to the discussion about exercise and playing of audiotape,
the best equipment for demagnetising standard compact cassette
mechanisms is the Maxell Head demagnetiser HE-44, which is a simple
battery operated demagnetiser in cassette form. Foolproof and
effective. Takes 20 seconds. Use as often as you can be bothered,
say every day before use.

For cleaning of metal and rubber parts of any tape machine transport
mechanisms, use the cotton buds and the set of two fluids, made by
TEAC; TZ-261 A (metal, heads etc.) and TZ-261 B (rubber) Do at least
every 40 playing hours.

If you do nothing else, clean the rubber pinch roller with fluid (or
ethanol) every 20-40 playing hours. This will prevent the tape from
sticking to it and causing those embarrassing rats-nests of tape
inside the machine.
