Curled nitrate negatives

I am submitting this query for a professor who does not belong to
the list.  He has obtained some nitrate negatives that are curled as
tightly as cigarettes.  Some are quite brittle. He would like to
unroll them so they can be copied.  Any suggestions? His name and
