    Heritage Area Workshop
    June 12 -16, 1995

    Major Themes

    A.  Identification of a Heritage Area

        Heritage Area concept; current applications from cultural
        geography,ethnology,  folklife , and oral and local history.

    B.  Heritage Area Planning and Comprehensive Design

        Designing and planning for the development of Heritage Areas,
        from concept papers to regional design.

    C.  Community Involvement in Heritage Area Development

        Possibilities and problems associated with a multi-cultural
        community-based project, stressing interactive techniques and
        methods.

    D.  Implementing an Interdisciplinary, Integrated Approach in
        Heritage Area Development

        How to draw from various disciplines for methods and concepts
        and how to integrate these findings into Heritage Area planning
        and implementation.

    The workshop will present the on-going Heritage Area project in
    Natchitoches Parish as an example and for experiential learning
    opportunities.  Field trips and presentations will demonstrate the
    application of an integrated, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary
    approach to understanding Natchitoches Parish's Native-American,
    French, Spanish, African, Anglo, and Creole heritages.

    This workshop is sponsored by the Department of Social Sciences of
    Northwestern State University of Louisiana and funded through the
    National Park Service's National Center for Preservation Technology
    and Training.  The fee for the workshop is $25.00 , with on-campus
    housing provided for a small additional charge.  For further
