Subject: Calcium carbonate and adhesive residues
On March 22, Sally Power asked for opinions on applying talc or calcium carbonate to sticky residues left from adhesives on paper. In paper mills, when they have trouble with adhesive and resin globs in the slurry, they use talc, even (I believe) for calcium carbonate-filled paper. They never use carbonate for this purpose. Some carbonate is abrasive, by the way--more abrasive than clay.
