Subject: Conservation inventory software
Software for Conservation, written using MS Access My wife Els Jacobs, professional restoration and conservation specialist working for the Conservation Department of the Flemish Community in Belgium, and I, working as a software engineer, have written a program in Microsoft Access to maintain records for Conservation and Restoration projects. The program is used by the Conservation Department of the Flemish Community to manage all records for mural painting and polychromy conservation projects. We want to share this program with other people as well. The program is entirely menu-driven, easy-to-use and requires no special skills besides knowing how to work with MS Windows. The current version is Dutch, but if there is enough interest an English version can be made easily. The database is structured relational and can contain specifications about the art work, the different techniques used during the restoration or conservation, the products used, description of the art work, pointers to a photo archive, suggestions for further treatments, publications about the work, history of the object itself etc. The same program can be used to maintain a list of product specifications and product vendors. From the program, extensive high-quality reports can be made. The program requires the installation of Microsoft Access on the computer (not included with our software), unless we find the funding to acquire ourselves a MS Access Developers Kit which will allow us to distribute the application to people not having MS Access on their computers. Anyone interested in having a copy or who wants to fund the further development by donating an MS Access 2.0 Developers kit can contact us in writing or via email.
