Thawing frozen books

As with Karen Motylewski, I have been sitting reading the comments on
this subject and have seen several of the points that I would have
mentioned be covered.  However, I would like to mention one item in
particular.  Given that the weakest point of a volume is usually the
hinge and of that the top part of the hinge, I have found that,
particularly with really wet books, beginning the thawing process with
the volumes standing on their heads puts less strain on the hinges and
tends to be less destructive.  Then, as the interleaving continues to be
replaced at intervals, the volume(s) should alternately be stood on
their tails and their heads to minimize the strain to one area.
