Conservation training opportunities

From: Roberta Pilette <pilette>

This is in response to William Barrow's question of where do people
receive training in the U.S. for manuscript materials. To get general
conservation training information contact the American Institute for
Conservation:

    AIC
    1717 K St, NW, Suite 301
    Washington D.C. 20006
    202-452-9545

and ask for their brochure on "Conservation Training in the United
States". This has all the programs listed. It covers architecture
preservation to books.

The Preservation & Conservation Studies program at the University of
Texas--Austin Graduate School of Library and Information Science
specializes in library and archival materials. The GSLIS has a gopher
which includes some of the syllabi for the PCS program. Point your
gopher to gopher.utexas.edu then choose UT-Austin then Graduate School
of Library and Information Science. Paul Banks one of our faculty is
working on a home page for the PCS programs but it is not ready.
Meanwhile interested folks can contact any of us in the program. We
will be happy to answer questions. We have a brochure that describes
the administrative program as well as the conservator program which we
will be more than happy to send out.
