Conservation/restoration degree in Florence

From: Nicole Squires <nesquire>
Date: Friday, January 27, 1995
I have recently returned from Florence and have been asked to post the
following information on behalf of the "Istituto per l'Arte e il
Restauro, Palazzo Spinelli":

The Palazzo Spinelli is a restoration school located in Florence Italy
which offers degrees in restoration. The program is approved by the US
Department of Education, the Guaranteed Student Loan Program, the
Institute of International Education, and the Alberta Students Board.
The program is open to students of all nationalities. Academic courses
in restoration cover a two-year period permitting students to work
toward the diploma of "Operator/Technician in Restoration" with the
possibility for an additional year of advanced studies for the
three-year diploma of "Restorer". At the end of the course qualified
students may have the opportunity of passing a short apprenticeship
period as technical assistants to those enterprises and organizations
which co-operate with the Institute.

The facility is outstanding and students receive hands on training in
the following areas: painting on canvas and wood panel, ceramics and
stone, books, drawings and prints, textiles, tapestries and carpets, and
antique wood.
