Subject: Digitization of microforms
In response to a question on the list, our local microfilming company is acquiring a microform scanner from Minolta. This equipment enables one to view 16 and 35mm microfilm and capture the image digitally onto computer disk or CD. The microfilming company is considering (1) selling such equipment, and (2) becoming a service bureau to charge for scanning film and giving you disks or CDs. They will be arranging a demonstration for me as soon as possible. Our interest is computer manipulation of Spanish document images on microfilm whereby we might be able to create a chronological database by manipulation of the images and translations. I'll post to the list when I get more idea of costs.
