Longevity of digital documents

The January 1995 issue (Volume 272, number 1) of Scientific American has
an article by Jeff Rothenberg about the longevity of digital documents
(tapes, CDs, etc.). I think anyone concerned about the preservation of
these materials will be interested in this information.
