Removing stamping on spine labels

From: William Henderson <willt>

Regarding removal of stamping from spines, our binder, a number of
years ago recommended using alcohol to soften the foil which can then be
taken off using a cotton swab and or a scraper. This is perhaps a
little less risky than acetone, but it will also soften the finish on
the buckram and must be done with some care. It is easier to have the
bindery correct large errors, and call numbers may be corrected by
covering them with a label carrying the correct call no.
