pH of paper

From: Jan Lyall <j.lyall>
Date: Sunday, November 27, 1994
In Cons Distlist Instance 8:38 Jim Druzik indicated that narrow-range
indicator strips may be adequate to identify acidic paper. In a
comparative study of a four extraction and four surface methods of
determining pH carried out at the National Library of Australia a few
years ago we found that indicator strips were inaccurate and unreliable.
The results of this study were published. See Brandis, L. (1993),
Bulletin Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Material,
Vol 18(3/4), pp7-17.
