I hope the following report is of some interest to those on the
list. Feel free to post it on to anyone who may be interested.

    EUROPEAN FORUM OF HERITAGE ASSOCIATIONS

1994 General Assembly (Amersfoort, The Netherlands, 14-16 October)

FORUM's main objective is to heighten the public awareness of a
common history in regional diversity. It does so by providing
international exchange programmes offering ample opportunities,
especially for young people, to actively participate in the study,
protection and promotion of the archaeological and architectural
heritage of the European continent. In addition, FORUM aims to
formulate common policies and encourage joint public action of the
member associations through a permanent form of contact between
    European heritage associations.

Membership is open to all independent non-profitmaking associations
that are active in the fields of survey, protection, study,
promotion and preservation of the archaeological and architectural
heritage in Europe. Professional or governmental institutions, and
universities, can become associated members. The FORUM currently has
over 30 member associations from 15 European countries.

The General Assembly, meeting yearly, appoints an Executive Board,
consisting of a President, Vice-President, Secretary General and
Treasurer, with representatives from the various areas of Europe. At
the present time the main officers are Dr Riemer Knoop, Netherlands
(President), Dr Michael Heyworth, UK (Vice-President), Adriana
Martini, Italy (General Secretary), and Tony Waegeman, Belgium
(Treasurer). Yearly working meetings are also organised on special
themes. Two newsletters a year are produced. The FORUM secretariat
is based in Italy c/o Gruppi Archeologici d'Italia, via Pellizzo
    14/D, I-35128 Padova, Italy, +39 49 77 53 63 (phone/fax)

The 1994 General Assembly was held in Amersfoort last weekend,
jointly hosted by the Archeologisch Informatie Centrum,
Archeologische Werkgemeenscaap voor Nederland, and Nederlandse
Jeugbond voor Geschiedenis. The programme consisted of sessions
discussing notions and definitions in voluntary archaeological work
in Europe, evaluation of the 1994 FORUM summer projects, and
developments in European coordination for archaeology, as well as
various internal discussions on the formal FORUM business.
