Paperback binding service

I recently received a flyer and sample bound book from a company called
Midwest Library Service.  What they do is yank ordered paperbacks
through something called the University Press Dual Edition Plan and
buckram bind them, gluing the paperback cover to the outside of the
binding.  Is anyone familiar with this plan or others like it?  Cost
effectiveness? Problems?  Thanks.
