Mothballs for book storage

Regarding Mr. Cartwright's query about moth balls:  my understanding is
that 1) they are a health hazard to any workers handling them or working
around them, and 2) they are not effective in deterring insects.  Sounds
like a difficult problem.  How about sealing the boxes and using silica
gel to buffer RH below mold-growth levels?
