Removing photograph from glass

A patron has asked us how to remove a photograph from glass.  The photo
is a black and white made in 1940.  The photo was put in a picture frame
and a portion about 5" round is stuck to the glass.  The patron believes
it is not a resin print.  Can it be removed without losing the picture?
If so can a layman do it and how?  If not who can we recommend?
