ALA preconference on preservation funding

The ALCTS division of ALA and the National Institute for the
Conservation of Cultural Property are sponsoring an ALA Preconference
entitled Developing the Midas Touch: Rethinking Funding Strategies for
Preservation, to be held Thursday, June 23, 1994, in Miami.  Even though
registration closure was advertised as June 2, spaces are still
available for this preconference and other ALCTS preconferences.
Interested parties are encouraged to register by Fax: (312-280-3257),
email (yvonne.mclean [at] ala__org), or phone (800-545-2433, Ext. 5032),
using either a credit card or a purchase order number.  A prompt
response is advised, as registration will close before the week of the
conference.

The program includes:

    *   a keynote presentation by Ellen Dunlap, of the American
        Antiquarian Society;

    *   a presentation by Victoria Steele, University of Southern
        California, "Fundraising 101: The Real Truth about Raising
        Funds";

    *  "Funding Strategies for Preservation in an Era of Slippery
        Priorities and Evolving Technology: The Brown Experience", a
        presentation by Samuel Streit, Brown University;

    *   an extended panel discussion on "Shared Experience:  Successful
        Funding Strategies and Program Designs,", with Nina Root,
        American Museum of Natural History, Judith Fortson, Hoover
        Institute, Heidi BenAicha, Princeton University, John Dean,
        Cornell University, and Rhonna Goodman, New York Academy of
        Medicine,  as panel participants;

    *   a panel on "The Funding Universe: Alternatives to the Old Tried
        and True," with Larry Reger, NBC, William Mott, Library Funding
        Associates, George Farr, NEH, and Trudy Hayden, New York Public
        Library, as participants; and

    *   a case study (with break-out sessions) presented by Ann Russell,
        Northeast Document Conservation Center.

Registration fees are:  ALCTS/NBC personal member, $105; ALA personal
member, $155, non-ALA member, $195.  If you need further information
