The Texas Memorial Museum is currently seeking an Assistant Conservator
for the Natural History Collection.

Required qualifications for this full-time, regular position: Master's
degree in conservation and two years experience, not including
professional internships; or Bachelor's degree in Conservation and four
years experience. Completion of a documented apprenticeship program in
conservation may substitute for at least two years of the required
experience.  Coursework, training, or experience in biology, geology, or
invertebrate palaeontology.

Preferred qualifications: Conservation degree with specialization in
natural sciences (geology, invertebrate paleontology, biology); or
equivalent work experience and training.  Two years of experience with
preservative conservation techniques, including storage methods and
collections documentation, preferably with specialization in
paleontological collections. Grant writing/fund development experience.

Essential functions are to perform benchwork with natural history
specimens, including invertebrate paleontology; evaluate collections and
storage condition and make recommendations; implement a program to
ensure proper maintenance, care and documentation of research materials;
develop pest management program, plan and oversee mitigation; perform
research in an appropriate aspect of natural history specimen
conservation.

This is a security sensitive position and a background check will be
conducted on the applicant selected.  Funding subject to renewal August
31, 1997. Starting monthly salary is $1694 to $2000 or more depending on
qualifications, plus excellent fringe benefits.  Qualified applicants
