During the first week, participants learn to process flax from retting
through making thread; European style papermaking with traditional
fibers, some of which are beaten on site in a waterpowered three-hammer
stampmill. Asian style papermaking using Kozo cooked and beaten by hand.

Week Two: Bookbinding

During the second week, participants learn to quarter-split oak for
boards, and dress the wood down with hand tools; manufacture
parchment/vellum; alum tawing; manufacture of fore edge clasps.

The book produced in week one is modeled after the limp vellum style,
the book produced during week two is finished in oak boards.
