Use of heat to reverse sticky shed syndrome

From: Jan Merrill-Oldham <hbladm18>
Date: Wednesday, March 23, 1994
I'm interested in identifying journal articles, news notes, lab reports,
and other sources (published and unpublished) that pre-date September
1989, describing the following process:

Use of heat to restore to playable condition magnetic tape that exhibits
"sticky shed syndrome." (Sticky shed is caused by hydrolysis-induced
breakdown of the binder layer of magnetic tape, which results in
shedding of the magnetic oxide coating layer, and is recognizable as
gumminess.)

Thanks in advance for whatever pre-September'89 citations you can
provide.
