Mass deacidification Preservation of artifactual value in microfilming projects

The Oberlin College Library is about to embark on a
deacidification/microfilming/photocopying project thanks to a grant from
the Culpeper Foundation. At the moment the deacidification component is
on hold. Is there any information about the future of AKZO's facility?

In regard to the microfilming and photocopying, what are other
libraries doing with original materials of artifactual value, like
bindings, endsheets, etc. whose contents are reformatted and
discarded? And how are they cataloged if they are separated from
the copy/film? How stored? Where?

Thanks in advance for help.
