A two-year position funded by a grant from the National Endowment for
the Humanities, Division of Preservation and Access for the cataloguing
and preservation of the Henry Hobson Richardson (1838-1886) archive of
5010 architectural drawings in the Houghton Library and complementary
materials in the Frances Loeb Library, Graduate School of Design.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  Under the supervision of the Harvard College Library Conservator, the
  Conservation Technician will perform a variety of conservation
  treatments on a collection of architectural drawings from the
  H.H.Richardson Archive.  The technician works with project staff on
  written and photographic documentation of conservation procedures.
  Responsibilities will also include the encapsulation, mounting and
  occasional matting of materials, including challenging fragile and/or
  oversize items.  Performs tasks as assigned to support work flow of
  busy conservation lab engaged in the examination, flattening,
  cleaning, repairing and deacidification of architectural drawings.
  Assists HCL Conservator in adhesive preparation and mending material


  Bachelor degree required with a minimum of 1-2 years experience in a
  conservation facility.  Prior experience in the fundamentals of paper
  repair and construction of protective enclosures. Good organization
  skills, attention to detail and an ability to work well with others as
  demonstrated by past work experience. Computer experience (Macintosh)
  helpful but not required.

Salary $21,600-$26,472
