Library Collections Conservator

Responsibilities: Provide the conservation repair unit with the advanced
technical and practical conservation skills required to increase
services offered and maintain the quality of work performed in the unit.
Responsible for the evaluation, physical care, and treatment of the
library collections and supervision of the repair unit, including
training staff in both minor and advanced, more complex treatment
techniques. Under the supervision of the department Head, incumbent will
set guidelines and procedures for the repair unit. The collections
conservator will report to the Head of the Preservation department and
will be expected to work in close concert with other staff throughout
both the library and the University community.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent educational or work
experience, with background in general & organic chemistry strongly
preferred. Formal training or at least 2 to 3 years bench experience in
a research library. Knowledge of conservation  and preservation
principles, and excellent manual dexterity required, as demonstrated by
a personal portfolio of samples. Ability to independently evaluate and
treat library material is required as are strong communication skills
and the ability to work as an effective team member. Supervisory
experience is desirable as is previous experience in a
production-oriented, academic environment.

Salary: Minimum $24,500
