Adhesive used in periodicals

From: Janice Mohlhenrich <9495mohlhenr>

Periodicals are showing up with advertisement pages that are tipped in
to the issue via a single narrow line of adhesive. Often the placement
of the adhesive in the inner margin means the advertisement obscures
text. The ad is easily removed and the adhesive strip peels off readily,
but does anyone know the long term effects of the residue? It seems a
bit oily, and the paper becomes nearly translucent after the adhesive is
removed. Does anyone know what kind of adhesive is being used or if we
should attempt to treat the pages in any way once it is removed?

Thanks,
