Impact of recon on preservation operations

As regards Richard Frieder's query regarding use statistics after a
recon project, I can only add the following information for three of our
LSCA-funded recon projects of special collections. In all three
projects--New England Conservatory of Music, the Museum of Fine Arts and
the Newburyport Public Library--there has been a marked increase in the
use of the collections. Even at the Newburyport PL, there have been
OCLC requests for a number of their local genealogies and sermons, etc.
Making them available makes people what to use them.
