Impact of recon on preservation operations

Northwestern is getting ready for a major retrospective conversion
(recon) project.  As many libraries have been through recon projects,I
was hoping that some of you would be willing to offer advice regarding
the impact of such projects on preservation operations.  Are there
implications during the project that I should brace myself for?  Are
there results afterwards--such as dramatically increased use--that
others have observed?  How have you dealt with these things?  Thanks.
