New Horizons

The Designer Bookbinders 1994 Conference NEW HORIZONS will be held at
Christ Church, Oxford, England from Wednesday 31st August to Saturday
3rd September 1994

Scope of the Conference

Providing a forum for discussion and display for craftsmen, teachers,
technicians and students on the latest developments in fine binding and
conservation. The workshops will cover aspects of design, structure and
decoration of the book; and conservation - preservation developments.
Speakers will be internationally acknowledged experts and Fellows of
Designer Bookbinders.

Outline of Programme

Wednesday Pre-Conference Tours in the Oxford area
31st August Registration (from 9.30am)
Trade fair opens
Opening plenary session
6.00 pm Informal reception
Dinner followed by informal discussion sessions

Thursday Workshop sessions all day
1st September Early evening - visit then free for supper
Optional evening discussion sessions

Friday Workshop sessions all day
2nd September Trade fair closes 4.00 pm
Banquet

Saturday am Workshop sessions
3rd September pm Plenary sessions
Conference closes 5.00 pm

Trade Fair

A Trade fair will be mounted in association with the conference. All
delegates will be invited to an informal reception in the Trade Fair
area on the first evening.

Venue

Christ Church, founded by Henry VIII in 1546 is a unique combination of
college and cathedral situated in the heart of the historic university
city of Oxford. Delegates will be accommodated in Christ Church with any
overspill in other colleges. Workshops , plenary sessions and the trade
fair will be held in the nearby Oxford University Examination Schools.

Residential:

Designer binder members         #435       around $800
Non members        #485       around $860

Non-Residential:

Designer binder members         #320       around $600
Non members        #370       around $630

Fees cover: attendance at all sessions; all conference papers; coffee,
lunch and tea each day; two receptions and dinner on the first evening.
The residential fee also includes a room and breakfast for three nights.
