Book Conservation Assistant

The American Antiquarian Society seeks a conservator to assist the chief
book and paper conservator in the preservation and conservation of the
library's materials.  Responsibilities: performs a variety of tasks
related to the repair and conservation of rare American books, 17th-
through 19th-century bindings, manuscripts, and other paper artifacts.
Treatments include all current conservation procedures.  Qualifications:
Four years of training and practical experience in book conservation and
a strong background in hand bookbinding desirable.  Salary depends upon
experience and qualifications.  Benefits and 20 days of vacation.  The
position opens Sept.1. 1993.  Review of applicants will begin May
15,1993, but applications will be accepted until position is filled.

The American Antiquarian Society is the nation's oldest national
historical society and houses the world's premier collection of early
American imprints.  It is located in Worcester, Massachusetts which is
45 minutes west of Boston.
