Re: Proceedings of the New York State Seminar on Mass
       Deacidification

A seminar on mass deacidification funded by the New York State Program
for the Conservation and Preservation of Library Research Materials took
place in Albany on October 15-16, 1992. Representatives of preservation
and collection development from the eleven New York State comprehensive
research libraries attended, and heard presentations from Robert
Milevski (Princeton University) on technical issues, James Stroud
(University of Texas) on current test runs of manuscripts and archives,
Richard Frieder (Northwestern University) on the CIC cooperative
project, Eugene Wiemers (Northwestern) on selection for mass
deacidification, and Ross Atkinson (Cornell University) on where
deacidification fits in the larger preservation and collection
development context.

The eleven New York State comprehensive research libraries are:
Columbia University, Cornell University, the New York Public Library,
the New York State Library, New York University, Syracuse University,
the University of Rochester, and the State University of New York
campuses at Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo, and Stony Brook.

A limited number of copies of the proceedings of the seminar are now
available. They include the formal papers which were presented as well
as transcriptions of question and answer sessions and general
discussions.

Copies can be obtained upon request (while supplies last)
