Older "archival" products

Has anyone done any research on the types of "archival" supplies for
sale during the last 40 or so years.  I am particularly interested in
what would have been available to libraries in the mid 1960s.  What
constituted "archival" at that time?  If no one has done this kin d of
research, does anyone know what companies would have been around in the
1960s?
