The position for Head of the Preservation Department at the Golda Meir
Library, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, has been re-opened. Unless
we have major budget retrenchment, the position should be filled and we
hope to have someone on board July 1, 1993.  The announcement is
following:

Golda Meir Library, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is a major metropolitan
doctoral university serving over 25,000 students.  The Golda Meir
Library is a modern, centralized library housing over 3.6 million
bibliographic items as well as the 900,000 item American Geographical
Society Collection.  The materials budget exceeds $2.4 million/year. The
Library is a member of the Center for Research Libraries.

DUTIES:  Reports to the Assistant Director for Technical Services;
responsible for managing and coordinating activities of the Preservation
Department (Materials processing section, Bindery section, and Book
reformatting section).  Includes the training and supervision of 5
full-time staff and 2.5 FTE student assistants. Develops goals and
priorities for the preservation and conservation of library materials,
including management of brittle books program. Plans and conducts
preservation education programs for library staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:  The successful candidate must have received the MLS
from an ALA-accredited graduate program; three years experience in an
academic or research library setting in preservation or preservation-
related areas (may include bindery operations, serials management);
broad knowledge of preservation based on work experience, equivalent
coursework, or related training; proven administrative and supervisory
skills; familiarity with automated library systems and library binding
practices; understanding of serials issues; ability to plan and
implement projects and to work independently; strong oral and written
communication skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with
staff at all levels.

SALARY:  Salary minimum $28,776, commensurate with experience and
qualifications.

APPOINTMENT/BENEFITS:  Position is an Academic Staff annual probationary
appointment leading to indefinite appointment.  Generous vacation and
