Popcorn

From: Janet Gertz <gertz>

I have just been informed by the Acquisitions staff here that
Harrassowitz has started packing its shipments in popcorn (edible, not
styrofoam). According to one of their people, the use of
environmentally sound packing materials was investigated on both sides
of the Atlantic, and this is what they came up with. They have sent
about 200 shipments thus far.

The popcorn for packing is air-processed without oil or salt, and they
consider it "preservationally sound" -- they have not considered the
effects of vermin attracted by the popcorn as a detriment, and in fact
mentioned that the popcorn would be safe for consumption by wildlife.

They have already received several phone calls on the subject, but it
wouldn't hurt to have a large number of complaints going to them. The
number is 800 642-2999.
