SAA mass deacidification session change

From: Charlotte Brown <c_brown>
Date: Friday, September 13, 1991
Backgrounder: A year ago, when the SAA Preservation Section submitted a
session proposal offering an update for archivists on mass
deacidification, we knew that the situation was in a state of
        "flux." And how...

For those of you who will be attending the SAA annual meeting, session
#73 "Deacidification: The State of the Science," (Saturday, Sept. 28th,
1:15 to 4:15 pm) has been completely revised. It is likely that the
session will not last the three hours, as originally planned; a number
of the vendors who were scheduled to give presentations are no longer
providing deacidification services; the commentator, Howard Dess is also
unable to attend.

Therefore, the session has been reconfigured to include an overview of
what has occurred in that past six months and a review of the literature
(a selected bibliography will be available). We will then open the
floor for a discussion of the role that mass deacidification
might/should play as a preservation option for embrittled archival and
manuscript materials.

I have notified the vendors of the revised session and have left it up
to them as to whether they will would like to partipate.

At the very least, it will be interesting (!)
