    The Los Angeles Preservation Network is sponsoring a one-day
    conference on preservation reformatting.  It will be held on
    Thursday, November 14, 1991, at the Huntington Library, San Marino,
    California.  The conference is entitled: "text, lies and videotape:
    a discussion of reformatting technologies."  Reformatting, or
    transferring images from one format to another (such as paper to
    video) is a valuable preservation tool.  The focus of the conference
    will be on microfilm, video,  and digital imaging and their uses in
    the preservation of library materials.  Speakers will be Michele
    Cloonan, UCLA; Michael Lesk, Bellcore; Ann Swartzell, UC Berkeley;
    Elaine Cavin, University Microfilm Inc.; Margaret Cribbs, Jet
    Propulsion Laboratory; Maura Mulvihill, National Geographic Society;
    John Stokes, Stokes Imaging Services, Inc.; Larry Carver, UC Santa
    Barbara; and Howard Webber, Digital Equipment Co.  Technical
    demonstrations by vendors will b e given.
