Sheet music

From: Bob Kosovsky <kos>
Date: Wednesday, March 20, 1991
Long ago at the Music Division of NYPL selected sheet music had been
bound. This was a grave error for it seemed to hasten the destruction of
the physical items which comprised a volume.

What we wound up doing was putting the sheet music in acid-free folders
(e.g. all songs beginning with the same letter and copyrighted in a
particular year), then putting the folders in Hollinger boxes.

Sheet music from before the 20th century was individually foldered and
is currently kept in file cabinets, though the preferable means of
storage would be Hollinger boxes.
