Subject: Photocopying photographs
On Sept. 19, Barbara Brown at the University of Texas asked for information on whether photos could be safely xeroxed. The last real research on this that I am aware of was done by Gary Saretzky and published as "The Effects of Electrostatic Copying on Modern Photographs" in the Book and Paper Group Annual in 1985, v. 4. It did not apply to early photographs, but it found that photocopying multiple times hardly affected his test photographs at all, even those that were deliberately processed poorly. Although the light is bright, it has such a short duration that it does little harm. *** Conservation DistList Instance 4:15 Distributed: Saturday, September 22, 1990 Message Id: cdl-4-15-004 ***Received on Saturday, 22 September, 1990
