I use the Zip for transferring images between computers--not archival.
The local Community College multi-media lab has several Orb units and
the
Instructor tells me that the students haven't wiped one out--yet. I
like the
2.2 GB capacity.
LTO and DLT now have capacities of 100 and 200 GB so it is a new
ballgame.
Both formats are increasing in popularity. Of course, they are slow but
backing up overnight works for most people.
